Montague golf wins home invite, with Whitehall 3rd; Fox edges Shafer in playoff to be medalist

Montague won the event championship Friday at its home invitational, scoring a 357 to beat second-place Sparta by 10 strokes.
Whitehall finished third with a 372, just five shots behind Sparta. It was the Vikings' best team score of the season.
The battle for individual medalist featured local players Cadence Fox of Montague and Riley Shafer of Whitehall, who each shot an 82 in their 18-hole rounds. Shafer made two birdies, and Fox made bogey or better on 16 of her 18 holes. The two played a playoff hole to determine the medalist, and Fox scored a birdie to secure the honors.
Addi Smith and Brynlee Kessler also got into the individual top 10 for the Wildcats, shooting an 87 and a 93 to place sixth and ninth respectively. Whitehall's Kelsie McClure was also a top-10 player, taking seventh with a 90.
Molly Mulder shot a 95 to close out the scoring for Montague, and Morgan Garcia also had a 95 for the Vikings. Avarie Bentz had a 105, a new personal best score.
