Hesperia fell to Holton Thursday night in the Division 4 district championship match, 44-35, ending the Panthers' team season.
Earlier Thursday, the Panthers defeated Montabella 48-30 in the semifinals.
The
difference in the finals was two weight classes the Panthers were
unable to fill, allowing Holton to win the 120 and 132-pound bouts by
forfeit.
On the mat, Hesperia opened the finals with a pair of
pin victories by Noah Walker and Carter Fuentes. Holton came back with
two pins and those two forfeits to jump ahead 24-12 and never trailed
again.
Dain Kraus scored a technical fall for Hesperia at 138,
followed by a pin from Aiden Smith at 144. Ryan Fuentes picked up a pin
at 157, and Evan Conkle scored a pin in the final bout of the match at
215.
Carter Fuentes, Ryan Fuentes, Smith, Conkle and Walker
each won bouts against Montabella on their way to 2-0 nights. Also
winning against Montabella were Grayson Gould, Brant Hutson and Logan
Kammer.
