First Annual Dress Drive starts its engine in Oceana this spring

Every young person deserves their moment to shine and step into a special night feeling confident, valued and seen. For many, prom and homecoming are milestones…a kind of “first drive” into unforgettable memories. But for some young ladies in this community, that road feels out of reach. Organizers of a brand new endeavor are hoping to change that.
They are launching their First Annual Dress Drive across Oceana County, with a goal of collecting 100 prom and homecoming dresses. With the community's help, they can make sure no girl is left standing on the sidelines when it’s her time to shine.
Right now, there are closets holding dresses that were once part of a beautiful story, dresses that could help start someone else’s journey. Organizers are asking anyone interested to consider donating new or gently used dresses, giving them another life and helping other young women feel confident and celebrated.
Think of it this way: together, lets take something that’s been parked and put it back on the road again, turning past memories into new beginnings.
Organizers will be collecting dresses during April and May, and again in August and September. Donations can be brought to and dropped off at any of the locations listed below. They are accepting all sizes and styles, both short and long.

Drop-off locations:
• Shelby – Wickstra Realty, 163 N. Michigan Ave. (10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday)
• Hart (downtown) – Stella’s Coffee House, 213 E. Main St. (10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday)
• Pentwater – Cosmic Candy Company, 168 S. Hancock St. (10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday)
• Walkerville/Hart – 4194 N. 120th Ave., Hart (drop box available anytime)

Please place dresses in a tied bag (trash bag or zip bag works perfectly) for easy drop-off.
This September, organizers will celebrate the Grand Opening of “The Salvage Yard” in Hart, a place where these dresses will be displayed and given new purpose. Just like a restored classic, each dress will help create a moment that someone will never forget.
Monetary donations are also welcome to help prepare this space, with painting, decorating and creating an environment that feels special for every young lady who walks through the door.
The community's support can help turn what feels like a dead end into a new road filled with confidence, dignity and joy for many.
If anyone feels this is something they can be part of, or if they have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to www.carsyouthcenter.com or carsyouthcenter25 on Facebook. The Salvage Yard would be honored to have the community join them on this journey.
