boat launch cleanup 1.jpeg

Many hands make light work for Pentwater volunteers

On Thursday, April 23, a dozen volunteers from the Pentwater Lake Association (PLA) and the Pentwater Service Club (PSC) teamed up to remove the leaves and debris that had collected at the boat launch on Longbridge Road, possibly for years. Volunteers brought their own shovels and rakes. PLA board member Tom Roose provided his tractor, scoop and trailer. He also transported the trailer contents to the Transfer Station.
The road end is under the responsibility of the Oceana County Road Commission (OCRC), but the boat dock is on Pentwater Township property. The PLA has taken initiative to install trash cans, life jackets and signage at the boat launch, but maintenance of the grounds has not occurred. Landscape debris accumulates, and some clutters the property of neighbors around the boat launch. So, the work of the volunteers was welcome and appreciated. It also created a more pleasant view for fishermen and passing motorists. A request has been submitted to the OCRC for permission to plant some flowers to further enhance the appearance of the launch area.
