Oceana Center Grange along with Oceana Grangers 4-H club and Pretty Porkers 4-H club are hosting a work bee day (starting at 10 a.m.) and fun evening (starting at 6 p.m.) at the Oceana County Fairgrounds, Friday, July 17.
Lunch and supper will be provided for all participants by the Oceana Center Grange. “You do not need to be a member of the Grange or 4-H to participate. All ages are welcome to come out and join in this fun community service project. However, we are asking that any children under 10 years of age be accompanied by a parent or guardian,” said organizer Char VanderStelt.
The Oceana County Livestock Committee requires 4-H participants to volunteer at the fairgrounds for a minimum of two hours. Therefore, 4-Hers will be able to sign up for two-hour shifts to fill this requirement, or they can choose to work all day.
The evening of fun set to run from 6-9 p.m. will begin with pizza followed by games and activities. “It's great for the kids and we encourage parents and volunteers to join in the activities as well,” VanderStelt continued. “We are planning on a competitive game of kickball at some point in the evening. While we hope everyone who helps at the work bee will join us in the evening, working at the work bee is not required to join in the evening fun.”
Two-hour time slots available to 4-H members wishing to fulfill their minimum volunteer service requirement are 10 a.m. to noon, noon to 2 p.m., 2-4 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Call or text VanderStelt at 231-301-1678 to sign up or with any questions.
