Hart delivered an
outstanding performance against larger schools Friday in the
season-opening Coopersville Invitational, scoring the Gold bracket
championship with a 25-20, 21-25, 25-13 win over the host Broncos in the
finals.
"It was a great day," Hart coach Shawn Bectel said. "We had a lot contributions
from all our girls and played hard as a team. This is looking to be an
amazing season."
Hart
was 4-0-2 overall on the day. The Pirates beat Lakewood in the bracket
semifinals, 29-27, 25-22. In pool play, Hart beat Fruitport (27-25,
25-17) and East Kentwood (25-19, 25-12) and tied with Reeths-Puffer
(19-25, 25-18) and Lakewood (24-26, 25-13).
Reese
Smith led Hart's offense on the day with 46 kills and an impressive
.213 hitting percentage. Braelynn Talmadge added 33 kills. Hart was
imposing at the net with 35 blocks as a team. Peyton Erickson had 14 of
those blocks, and Mya Hovey added 11.
Calyn
Eisenlohr had 70 assists to set up her teammates for attacks. Grace
Tucker added 57. Alayna Schiller had 76 digs, with Smith adding 61.
Schiller served 11 aces.
