The 2026 Oceana Student Art Show was a reminder of the powerful role of art in our lives, schools and community.
A vibrant display of creativity and imagination was center stage in May as students featured their works at the annual Oceana Student Art Show. Presented by the Pentwater Arts Council for the 13th year, the exhibition celebrated young talent and highlighted the diverse perspectives of Oceana students in elementary, middle and high school levels from Pentwater, Hart, Shelby, Oceana Christian and Walkerville schools.
From bold 2D paintings to intricate 3D mixed media and sculpture, the show offered a wide range of styles and subjects. Each piece told a story inspired by personal or current events, nature, abstract ideas or an art class assignment. Together they created a dynamic collection capturing the energy and curiosity of the emerging artists.
The annual exhibition was more than a showcase - it was an opportunity for students to build confidence while sharing their creative vision with their community. For the youngest participants, this was their first time exhibiting their work publicly and made the experience exciting and meaningful. Professional artists judged all art pieces for Best in Show, first, second and third place in 2D and 3D in all three school levels. The public participated in determining the People’s Choice Awards in the same areas. Winners were awarded monetary prizes for their work at the conclusion of the exhibition.
Visitors were wowed by the intent and originality behind each piece. The students’ artwork reflected their artistic abilities and their willingness to experiment and take risks with ideas and vision while exploring new techniques and ideas mentored by their art teachers.
If anyone missed the exhibition, they are still able to view some of the awarded student art pieces across Oceana libraries this summer.
