Shelby took West Michigan Conference power North Muskegon to the end Wednesday, but couldn't steal the win, dropping a 2-1 decision.
Tigers' coach Cristian Arellano said keeper Oliver Gorton played a tremendous game in goal to keep his team in the game, crediting him with 18 saves. Both of North Muskegon's goals came on penalty kicks.
"Oliver Gorton came up with some incredible saves," Arellano said. "He played out of his mind. It was crazy to watch."
Shelby seized a 1-0 lead in the second half when Christian Llanas scored a goal, assisted by Cesar Cadena, but the Norsemen rallied to win it.
"The Tigers showed that we can compete against a great team that is very well-coached," Arellano said. "We kept the pressure through the whole game, but mistakes cost us on defense. I am very happy with the evolution the team has been taking from the start of the season to now."
