Joan Lorraine Erickson, 95, formerly of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 8, 1931, in Detroit, the daughter of John and Violet (Winters) Current.
Joan was a homemaker who was a wonderful cook and baker. She was well known for her cinnamon rolls, pies, cakes, and cookies, especially her giant cookie trays at Christmastime. She worked for 16 years at Shelby Public Schools as a lunch lady. Joan also enjoyed knitting, and her family was blessed with afghans, baby blankets, and sweaters through the years. Joan was a breast cancer survivor and was active in her support group for many years.
Joan is survived by: her children, Denise (Tom) McCarty, Carol Babinec, Susan (Jerry) Selkirk-Merren, Bob (Debbie) Erickson, Chris Erickson and Jeanne Erickson; 18 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; sister, Sharron (Dave) Tanner; brother, Gary (Betty) Current; and a special friend, Laurel Minard.
Joan was preceded in death by: her parents, John and Violet; husband, Bob; son, John; brothers, Carl, Don and Dave.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Harris Funeral Home, 267 N. Michigan Ave., Shelby, Michigan 49455, with Pastor Dave Sill officiating. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2026 at Harris Funeral Home and one hour before services on Saturday. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shelby.
