Reeths-Puffer showed that it's ready to compete with the top dogs
in the O-K Green Conference at Monday's league-opening jamboree, hosted
by Jenison.
The Rockets finished in second place with a team
score of 179, just two strokes behind first-place Caledonia. The score
was a 13-shot improvement over the same jamboree a year ago.
R-P
golfers took the top two spots on the individual leaderboard, again led
by Sophia McCollum. The defending Division 2 state champ shot an even
par 37, making birdie on three out of four holes at one point and not
shooting worse than bogey on any hole. Olivia Ambler took second with a
40, making a pair of birdies.
Ella Voorhies was the third Rocket scorer, coming in ninth overall with a 47. She made a birdie during her round as well.
"The three seniors led the way with top 10 finishes," Rockets' coach Matt Pallett said. "Sophia and Olivia
played great, and Ella had a good stretch of golf tonight as well. We
will continue to rely on those three as the other players keep
developing.”
Kayleigh Brown, a junior playing in her first
ever event, shot a 55 and was the fourth Rocket scorer. She even scored a
birdie on the course's first hole.
“It was a great debut for Kayleigh Brown," Pallett said. "She wasn’t overly happy with
her final score, but I see a lot of upside in her game. She is a great
addition to the team.”
