Hart measured up well against some top competition Saturday at the Mona Shores Invitational, despite a 1-2 record.
The Pirates (18-10-3) opened the day with a close loss to the host Sailors, 25-20, 25-17, and bounced back to edge North Muskegon, 26-24, 25-23. In bracket play, Hart faced Western Michigan Christian, and the two teams played a hotly contested match that the Warriors ultimately won, 24-26, 27-25, 25-18.
"The girls had to deal with a few things that they weren't able to control, but they still held their composure and fought through," Hart coach Shawn Bectel said. "I'm very proud of our effort today. The girls never gave up and battled back through every situation."
Reese Smith had a standout day on offense for Hart, totaling 26 kills in the three matches. She was also second on the team in digs, with 34. Grace Tucker totaled 34 assists and Calyn Eisenlohr added 25.
Defensively, Alayna Schiller had 46 digs, and Jenna Babbin had nine blocks. Hart made only five service errors all day and managed 15 aces, seven by Schiller.
