SADL celebrates Library Card Sign-Up Month

This September, Shelby Area District Library invites all to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month and discover how a single card can open the door to endless opportunities!
This year’s theme, “One Card, Endless Possibilities,” is a reminder that libraries are for everyone—no matter their age, background or goals. Whether one is diving into a new hobby, searching for their next great read, brushing up on tech skills, or helping their child succeed in school, it all starts with a library card.
Join SADL in September for special activities, including:
• Make Your Own Card Holder: youth ages 5+ are invited to get their own library card and make a library card holder for it from 10-11 a.m. or 3-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in September. This activity is drop-in style, and no registration is needed. A parent or guardian must be present for library card registration.
• Bookish Bags: for teens and adults, on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. Participants will use literary-themed iron-on transfers and canvas totes to create the perfect library bag. Registration is required. Call 231-861-4565 or email tifhaight@shelbylibrary.org
• Library Card Sign-Up Celebration: will be held during library hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) on Friday, Sept. 19. Giveaways, a prize drawing for a cozy reading blanket, refreshments and more! This is a perfect opportunity for those in SADL's service area (townships of Shelby, Benona, Ferry, Claybanks, Otto and Grant) to get a library card.
• Decorative Wooden Bookmark: for ages 9+ on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 3:30 p.m. Attendees will use Mod Podge and scrapbook paper to create a unique bookmark. Drop-in style while supplies last.
All the events listed above are sponsored by the Friends of the Shelby Area District Library. The library is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
