Frang's upset win at No. 1 singles highlights Reeths-Puffer tennis' efforts in loss to Byron Center

Reeths-Puffer lost an 8-1 decision to Byron Center Monday in O-K Green Conference action, but the one was a big one.
The Rockets' top singles player, Ethan Frang, upset Byron Center's Terrence He 7-5, 7-6 in a high-octane match. The win was especially remarkable for Frang, who hasn't played in a state finals, because He was a semifinalist at state last year in the No. 2 singles flight. The Bulldogs' junior has ascended to the No. 1 singles position this year for Byron Center, which holds the No. 1 ranking in the state in Division 2.
Frang previously supplied one of the Rockets' two wins at a tri meet Saturday, defeating a Grand Haven foe 6-0, 6-0. The Rockets fell 7-1 to Grand Haven in that match, to Okemos 6-0, and to Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 7-1. R-P's win against Loy Norrix was courtesy of No. 2 singles player Cory Judd.
