Hart's teams both had great efforts Saturday at the Cougar Falcon Invitational, with the boys' Pirates claiming first place in the small-school Falcon division race and the girls' team finishing second.
The Pirate boys edged Grand Rapids Catholic Central by two points and Fremont by four in a very tight Falcon division race. Mason Opalewski was the first of two top-10 runners for Hart in the race with a time of 17:26.3, good for seventh place. Timothy Wolff was ninth in a time of 17:28.8. Both times were career bests.
Also for Hart, Grant Ackley and Aiden Schaner finished at virtually the same time - both their recorded times were 17:35.5 - with Ackley credited in 11th place and Schaner in 12th. Schaner's time was a season best for him. Carson Ackley was the Pirates' fifth scorer, placing 14th (17:57.1).
The Hart girls finished only 11 points behind Fremont for the top spot. The team put three runners into the individual top 10, led by Natalie Rosema in fourth. Rosema's time was a season best 20:20.3. Emma Miller added a seventh-place finish and set a new career best time (20:47.0), and Alaina Schaner was ninth (21:20.5).
Bryn Riley was just outside the top 10 for the Pirates, placing 11th (21:33.7), and Luisa Vander Zwaag closed out the scoring in 17th (22:5.1).
