Two very close matches did not go Shelby's way Saturday at the Whitehall Invitational, forcing the Tigers to settle for a 1-3 finish.
Shelby lost tough three-game battles to Whitehall (25-21, 21-25, 15-9) and to Kent City (25-19, 14-25, 15-11) at the meet. Shelby picked up a win over Wellspring Prep (25-10, 25-17) and lost a match to Western Michigan Christian (25-17, 25-20).
"We've played 12 matches over the past two weeks, so it's been a busy
stretch," Shelby coach McKenna Peters said. "We're looking forward to slowing down a bit and getting some
good practice time to work on some different stuff."
The individual highlight of the day for the Tigers (7-14) was Brylee Friedman surpassing 1,000 career digs. Friedman had 22 digs for the day and also led the team in kills with 21.
"We are so proud of her and all the hard work she’s put in to reach this point," Peters said.
Ariana Garza also had a good day for Shelby, racking up 39 digs in total, including a career-high 22 against Kent City alone.
Peyton Rapes passed out 60 assists, and Charlee Friedman served up a team-best 10 aces.
