Shelby wrestling takes 7th, Hesperia 10th at Chippewa Hills Invitational

Shelby and Hesperia both wrestled at Saturday's Chippewa Hills Invitational, with the Tigers earning a seventh-place finish and Hesperia taking 10th.
Brody Fessenden starred for the Tigers, picking up the title at the 157-pound weight class with a 4-0 record. Fessenden scored bonus points in all four of his wins, pinning his first two opponents and scoring technical falls in his final two matches, including a 16-1 win over Big Rapids' Bryce Selzer in the finals.
Shelby also had two finalists finish in second place. Jaylin Henderson took second at 165 and went 3-1. He scored a pin in his first match and earned a decision and a technical fall to reach the finals. He lost a hard-fought battle to Greenville's Chayson Eberspeaker, 4-2, in the championship match.
Alden Beyer was also second, at 113 pounds. Beyer pinned two opponents to reach the finals before falling to Gladwin's Kolten Greaves in the title match by major decision.
Cesar Cadena placed third for Shelby at 120, also going 4-1. Cadena pinned his first two opponents and scored a dramatic overtime victory in the third-place match, 4-1.
Carter Fuentes had Hesperia's top finish at the meet, placing second at 106. Fuentes scored two pins and a technical fall to reach the championship match, losing to Stevensville Lakeshore's Chase Jacobs in the finals.
The Panthers' second top-3 finish came from Aiden Smith, who was third at 138. Smith went 3-1, scoring two pins and then a decision in the third-place match.
