Jack Alan Light

Jack Alan Light, 79, of Montague, Michigan, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at home.  He was born April 24, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Opie and Charlotte (Chancellor) Light.
Jack took great pride in serving his country for over 20 years, first in the Marine Corps and then in the Army until his retirement in 1992.
A man of uncompromising integrity, Jack always wanted to bring people together. Family was very important to him, and he loved being a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, as well as a great role model and friend.
His hobbies and interests made Jack truly unique, including martial arts, jogging, biking and many different types of music. On cold winter days, Kung Fu and Bruce Lee movies were his favorite.
Jack is survived by: his daughters, Tommasia Light, Darla Backensto and Rachel (Jon) Sportell; his grandchildren, Kyle Light, Zackary Dohnal, Blake Wentworth, Lauren Light, Trevor Fahrlander, Josiah Sportell, Elijah Sportell and Jeremiah Sportell; his great-grandchildren, Grayson Light, Michael Sportell, Margot Light and Stella Light; his siblings, Richard (Joyce) Light, Sandra (Joe) Hayes, Sharon Thout, Judy (Dave) Merritt and Mike Light; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by: his parents; and eight siblings, Barbara Johnson, Robert Light, Frances Kenley, Benny Light, Donna Benedict, Donald Light, Gary Light and David Light.
We take comfort in knowing his memory lives through us, the lives he touched and the love he shared will be cherished forever.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Oak Crest Church of God, 1540 Leonard Ave., Muskegon, MI, 49442. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
