Annabelle Stark's dramatic steal and layup with 14 seconds to go
was the difference for Shelby Friday night as the Tigers picked up a
thrilling 40-39 comeback win over Ravenna in West Michigan Conference
Rivers play.
Stark's play capped a remarkable comeback for
Shelby (11-1, 6-0 WMC Rivers), which trailed 30-18 at halftime but was
able to storm back and retain control of the WMC Rivers race.
"It really was a fight by two very similar teams," Wolting said. "I thought my girls
did a good job in the 2nd half of talking on defense and executing our
offense, and it made a huge difference in the game."
Shelby
had a rough shooting performance, making only 23.5% of its attempts, but
forced 20 turnovers on defense and grabbed 11 offensive rebounds to
make up for it.
Ava Lamberg hit three free throws for Shelby
with a minute left to keep the Tigers within range for the comeback. She
had nine points, second to Jayna Burmeister's 12 for the team.
Burmeister also had 11 rebounds.
"I’m proud of the energy my
girls brought tonight on the floor and bench," Wolting said. "It’s
always hard to go to Ravenna and win."
