Luke VanderWilk took the starring role Thursday night as Hart defeated Mason County Central 60-49 in its regular-season finale.
VanderWilk scored 18 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, had six blocked shots and swiped three steals, all team highs.
"(His performance) shows you what he is capable of with his energy and effort," Hart coach Nick Bronsema said.
The
Pirates (19-3, 10-2 West Michigan Conference Rivers) took the lead for
good late in the second quarter, though the game remained a tough fight
the rest of the way. Bronsema said MCC has improved a lot during the
season.
"It's not usually a good sign when you're
playing on a senior night," Bronsema said. "It tends to bring out the best in the kids
who they are celebrating. It was
another awesome environment to play in and I'm super proud of our kids'
response to adverse situations."
Caleb Ackley had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Hart, and Kolton Rockwell chipped in 13 points.
