Hart's track teams enjoyed a strong start to their seasons Friday, each taking fourth place at the Grand Valley State Laker Challenge indoor meet. A total of 39 small schools competed in the meet.
Each Pirate team had a first-place finisher. Chase Lorenz brought home top finishes in the 200 and 400-meter dashes, running the races in 22.48 seconds and 49.74 seconds respectively and setting a personal best in the latter. On the girls' side, Joselyn Flores earned first place in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-2.
The Pirate girls had two additional top-3 finishers. Natalie Rosema took third in the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 2:26.2, and Shelbie Choponis was third in shot put with a personal best mark of 33-2.25.
Addison Hain added a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash for the Pirates (8.24), and Lorenz was fourth in the boys' 60-meter dash (7.28). The all-senior group of Elon Babbin, Jack Slotman, Bryce Vander Kodde and Lyric Fielder finished fourth in the 1,200-meter relay (2:33.8).
