Walkerville's Cinderella postseason run was halted by Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart in Monday night's regional semifinal in Coleman, as the Wildcats took a 53-11 defeat.
The Irish, who advanced to their third consecutive regional championship game with the win, came at Walkerville "with tough defensive pressure," Wildcats' coach Mandy Achterhof, and it produced early results. By halftime, Sacred Heart had a 32-6 lead.
While it was a rough ending for Walkerville, which finished with a 5-15 record, Achterhof said the team showed improvement throughout the season and throughout each game. The roster didn't have any seniors on it, so the experience gained through the team's postseason run should benefit the 'Cats for years to come.
"This season has seen a lot of growth,
learning, and improvements for the team," Achterhof said. "Every game we played, whether
we won or lost, there were improvements, and that's what you want from a
team. I am proud of the girls and what they were able to accomplish
this season."
