Hesperia opened its West Michigan Conference Rivers season Thursday
at the North Muskegon Tri, and both teams defeated rival Holton.
The
Panther boys knocked off Holton 73-55, and the girls won 60-52. North
Muskegon, a very strong program in track, easily defeated both schools.
Both
of Hesperia's overall wins in the boys' tri were in the distance
events. Nate Ruhstorfer took first in the 1,600-meter run, with a time
of 5:25.6, and Hunter Tinkham won the 3,200 in a time of 13:46.3.
Hesperia's
girls won two events, both field events. Emily McCallum won the shot
put with a mark of 32-5, and freshman McKenna Fraser earned the top spot
in high jump with a leap of 5-0.
