Hesperia track teams place highly at home invitational; Pentwater's McGuire-VanGills, Fatura have big days

Hesperia finished second in the girls' meet and third in the boys' as it hosted the Small School Invitational Friday.
The Panthers were joined by fellow county schools Pentwater and Walkerville as part of a six-school lineup at the meet. The Falcon boys placed fourth and the girls sixth, while Walkerville took fourth in the girls' meet and sixth in the boys'.
The Panther girls excelled in the relays, winning all three in which they competed. The 400-meter relay team of Betty Jo Gerhardt, McKenna Fraser, Sophia Fraser and Jolie Kraus picked up a win with a time of 58.92 seconds. Chloe Rickard subbed in for Sophia Fraser, but otherwise the 800 team was identical, and they too won with a time of 2:02.98. The 1,600 team of Mollie Craig, Kraus, Sophia Fraser and Rokhaya Ruhstorfer scored a win with a time of 5:37.2.
Also for the Panther girls, Emily McCallum won the shot put with a mark of 30-6.5, and Gerhardt won the high jump with a leap of 4-10.
Taking second for Hesperia were Hanna Rickard in discus (74-5) and Craig in the 400, setting a personal best time (1:13.7).
Nate Ruhstorfer earned the Panther boys' lone win, taking the top spot in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.61 seconds. Keegan Roberson finished second in the 300 hurdles and set a new personal best (47.21), and Zach Loughridge was second in the 200 (25.70).
The Panther boys also scored a lot of points in the relays, taking second three times. The 100 team of Dominick Rivera, Andy Lopez-Garcia, Loughridge and Quinten Taylor was second (49.45); the 1,600 team of Lopez-Garcia, Roberson, Brighton Mahoney and Ruhstorfer was second (4:05.8); and the 3,200 team of Dain Kraus, Zed Bierman, Laynce Smith and Hunter Tinkham took second as well (10:23.2).

Boys Results:
The boys finished 6th out of 7 teams with 13 points
Hugh earned 3rd place in the shot put
Logan earned 5th place in the 800m
The 4x200m relay team (Dillan, Zander, Hugh, Logan) finished just three seconds shy of 3rd place
The team also showed great improvement, recording seven personal records on the day. Hugh broke the 14-second barrier in the 100m, and Nathanial had a significant personal best in shot put, improving by over 1.5 feet.
Girls Results:
The girls placed 4th out of 7 teams with 44 points and earned six medals overall
Paige earned 3rd place in the 100m
Gaby earned 3rd place in the 800m and 1600m
Isabel earned 2nd place in shot put and 3rd place in discus
The 4x100m relay team (Grace, Isabel, Alyssa, Paige) earned 3rd place
Gaby also narrowly missed an additional medal with a 4th-place finish in the 400m. The girls recorded ten personal records, highlighting continued growth across the team. Isabel surpassed the 30-foot mark in shot put, and Paige had an outstanding performance with a 15.5-foot personal best in discus and over a 1.5-second improvement in the 100m.
Overall, it was a strong day marked by effort, growth, and competitiveness from both teams. The focus now is to keep building on this progress.
For Pentwater, Chase McGuire-VanGills led the way with three individual wins. He took first in the 100 (11.98), the 200 (24.78) and the long jump (17-3). Logan Fatura added two wins by sweeping the throws, posting marks of 117-1 in the discus and 42-4 in the shot put.
Emma Werkema-Grondsma was the only Falcon girl to compete, but she placed in the top seven in all four events she competed in, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in long jump with a personal best mark of 12-7.
Walkerville's top finish was a second-place from Isabel Babbin in the shot put, with a personal best of 30-4. Hers was one of eight personal bests by the Wildcats in the meet.
Hugh Tanner led the Wildcat boys by placing third in shot put with a mark of 36-4.
