Pentwater finished fourth in its season-opening meet, the Mason County
Eastern Invitational, Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons were competing
against Mesick, Union and the host Cardinals.
The Falcons earned wins
in two events, one each in the boys' and girls' meets. Logan Fatura
took first place in the discus with a throw of 128-5, his second-best
career mark. The girls' 800-meter relay team also picked up first place.
The team of Lila Merrill, Emma Werkema-Grondsma, Lexi Smith and Lauren
Davis won the race in a time of 2:07.4.
Smith also finished in second
place in the high jump with a mark of 4-6, and Bailey Case was second
in the 800 with a time of 3:16.2. Davis added a runner-up finish in the
300 hurdles, with a time of 1:00.7.
Chase McGuire-VanGills also earned a second-place finish in the boys' meet, posting a time of 25.47 seconds in the 200 meters.
"The
team set the tone for an exciting season ahead," Pentwater coach Erika
Fatura said. "For many athletes, this was their very first meet and they
rose to the occasion with confidence, determination, and a drive to
keep improving."
