Shelby lost a hard-fought battle to Ravenna Monday in West Michigan
Conference action, 2-1, dealing the Tigers their first defeat of the
season.
The Tigers (3-1-1, 2-1 WMC) nabbed a quick early lead
when Annabelle Stark scored off an assist by Fernanda Espinosa, but
after that score, neither team was able to find much offense for some
time. Ravenna tied the game late in the first half, and then went ahead
for good early in the second. Both goals came from Ravenna star Taryn
Marsman.
"We
knew going in we needed to keep an eye on her, and I feel like we were
successful for about 90 percent of the game," Shelby coach Joe Gorton said.
Due to some second-half injuries, Shelby was fighting uphill most of the second half and was unable to get an equalizer.
