Hesperia swept Lakeview in a district tune-up doubleheader Tuesday
with two late rallies, winning a close game one 3-2 before routing the
Wildcats 16-6 in game two.
The Panthers (5-18) rallied with three runs in the fifth inning to steal the opener; the game lasted six inning.
Weston
Hasted got Hesperia on the board with a RBI triple in the fifth and
came across to score on a Lakeview error. Later in the inning, Evan
Conkle drove in the winning run with a double.
Braxton Hendrix
got two hits for the Panthers and drew a walk, and Conkle also walked
in addition to his double. Daylen Castillo got the win, striking out 10
and allowing no earned runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Hesperia trailed game two 6-4 going into the fifth inning, then ripped off 12 runs to end the game by mercy rule.
A
barrage of hits off Panther bats fueled the late rally. Hasted drove in
two runs with a double, and four other Panthers had run-scoring
singles.
Dominick Rivera had two hits and three RBI for
Hesperia in game two, and Conkle got two hits and drew three walks.
Castillo also got two hits. Abe Escobedo drove in three runs on a hit
and two walks. He also got the win on the mound with 2 1/3 innings of
scoreless relief, allowing four hits and striking out two.
