A late offensive explosion earned Pentwater a pre-district victory
over Baldwin Tuesday, 13-7, the team's first win of the season.
The Falcons advanced to the main bracket and a semifinal game against Mason County Eastern in Custer at 10 a.m.
Trailing
7-6 after Baldwin jumped ahead in the top of the fifth inning, the
Falcons struck back by drawing four walks to tie the score. Kyle Oomen
then put Pentwater ahead for good with a run-scoring groundout, and
Abram Kieda's followed with a two-run single. Michael Smith added a RBI
single, and the Falcons got another run when Baldwin dropped a third
strike, allowing Smith to score.
Kieda and Ben Wisenbaugh each
got two hits and drove in two runs, and Ben Roberson also drove in two
runs. Oliver Nugent and Oomen each drew two walks.
Kieda pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to get the win, allowing only one hit and striking out three.
