Pentwater softball drops doubleheader to Mason Co. Eastern

Pentwater lost a pair of tough battles to Mason County Eastern Monday in West Michigan D League action, 4-2 and 8-2.
The Falcons tied the game up in the fourth inning of the opener when Lauren Davis and Alazae Acevedo connected on consecutive RBI singles to get their team on the board. However, MCE quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, and the Falcons, despite loading the bases in the fifth, were unable to launch another rally.
Acevedo and Amelia Barter each had two hits for Pentwater in the game.
Things looked exciting for Pentwater early in game two when Charlie Swanger launched a deep ball to left field that reached the fence, enabling Swanger to circle the bases for an inside-the-park home run to tie it 1-1 in the first inning. Alyssa Shafer added a RBI single later in the inning to give the Falcons the lead. Again, though, MCE had an answer, scoring twice in the second to take the lead for good. Five Falcon errors proved costly in the loss.
"Although Pentwater continued to put the ball in play with hard contact, MCE's solid defense stifled any hopes of a comeback," Falcons' coach Troy Holstad said.
Swanger and Karina Olivarez each had two hits in game two.
