SHELBY — Shelby didn't have any more luck stopping the Ravenna
buzzsaw than most Bulldogs' opponents during Friday's doubleheader,
losing games 18-1 and 15-0.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in
Division 3, moved to a perfect 24-0 with the win and have allowed only
11 runs since April began. That's despite an ambitious schedule; Ravenna
has defeated, and in most cases dominated, several larger schools such
as Reeths-Puffer, Grand Haven, Midland Dow, Wayland, Rockford and
Jenison.
Jayna Burmeister provided the Tigers' only run of the
day, blasting a solo home run in the first inning of game one.
Unfortunately for Shelby, Ravenna had already scored seven runs by the
time she hit that home run.
Emma Stovall had the Tigers' only other hit in game one, while Ravenna racked up four extra-base hits by four different players.
In
game two, Stovall got Shelby's only hit in the four-inning game. The
Tigers did manage to play errorless defense in the loss, but Emily
Postema's three extra-base hits, including a home run, were far too much
for Shelby to overcome.
