MONTAGUE — Shelby rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Montague Thursday, 18-0 and 13-1.
The
Tigers led 5-0 after three innings in game one, but in the fourth,
their already-successful offense hit a new level, scoring 13 times to
secure the mercy-rule win. Shelby took advantage of Montague walks and
errors. Gabby LaFever, Jaedyn Allen and Emma Stovall each had a RBI
single in the inning, and Jordan Wolting ripped a run-scoring double to
left field during the run as well.
Wolting went 4-for-4 and
scored four times in the win, driving in two runs. Jayna Burmeister
scored three times, and Stovall and Allen each got two hits. Allen, Izzy
Rudat and Ciara Anzaldua drove in two runs each. Burmeister pitched a
four-inning perfect game, striking out nine batters.
The
Tigers got on the board in all five innings of game two to pick up
another mercy-rule win. Burmeister got the scoring started with a
first-inning solo home run, and Stovall laced a three-run triple in the
second. Both Tigers had two hits in the win, and Burmeister scored three
times. LaFever and Brynlee Myers also each had two hits. Wolting
pitched two shutout innings and struck out two.
