Whitehall boys track settles for 2nd at GMAA after 4-year reign at the top; each local team enjoys some success

Whitehall's four-year reign as champions of the GMAA boys track meet ended Friday night at Western Michigan Christian, as the Vikings settled for second place behind Mona Shores, 117-94.
Those two teams easily outpaced everyone else; Whitehall was 44 points ahead of third-place Fruitport. Reeths-Puffer took fourth place, and Montague was seventh.
In the girls' meet, Reeths-Puffer topped local squads with a third-place finish. Montague was fourth and Whitehall finished eighth.
The Viking boys came away with individual wins in four events by four different athletes. Caden Bowyer took first in the discus with a throw of 146-11, and Ayden Mendoza's unbeaten run in high jump rolled on as he posted a mark of 6-2. Hunter Parsons won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:44.7, and Javi LeBlanc won the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:51.8.
Whitehall had two runners-up, with Graysen Olstrom second in the pole vault (13-0) and Elijah Smith second in the long jump, posting a personal best (19-11). The team also finished second in the 3,200 relay, with Parsons and LeBlanc joining Jevon Hilliard and Rex Pumford (8:21.2).
The Vikes also finished third in three events. Bowyer took third in the shot put (47-11), Judd Musk was third in the 110 hurdles (16.07) and Hilliard placed third in the 400 (53.85).
Aaliyah Jamison had her typical starring role for the Viking girls, winning the shot put with a mark of 31-9.5 and finishing third in the discus with a throw of 92-8.
Jersi Bilek highlighted the Rocket girls' efforts at the GMAA, winning the 800-meter run in a time of 2:23.1.
Addison Mitchelson picked up two runner-up finishes in the sprints for the Rockets, posting times of 13.29 seconds in the 100 and 28.10 seconds in the 200. Zaire Wright was second for R-P in the shot put with a mark of 30-5.
The Rockets' 400 relay team of Mitchelson, Jailynn Zuniga, Ivanna Kass and Wyn Waggoner also took second (53.66). The 1,600 team of Bilek, Mitchelson, Waggoner and Kass rounded out R-P's top-3 finishers by placing third (4:34.8).
For R-P's boys, Evan McHugh had a huge day, placing in the top two three times. McHugh won the pole vault and set a new personal best of 13-6, and he twice finished second in hurdles races, posting times of 16.04 seconds in the 110 and 41.83 seconds in the 300. Marvin Moore delivered a win in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 50.97 seconds. 
London Rankin added a personal best of 11.23 seconds in the 100, good for second place.
Addi Smith led Montague's girls team at the meet, scoring a win in pole vault with a mark of 8-6. Annelyse Schneider added the Wildcats' other top-3 finish, coming in third in the high jump (5-0). For the boys, Isaac French had another impressive day and won the shot put (50-5.5). Wesley Mair set a new personal best to take third in the 3,200-meter run (10:48.4), and Nolan Kessler added a third-place finish in the 1,600-meter run (4:56.8).
