Cleanup events, tours coming to Muskegon County state parks

Muskegon State Park will host a 90-minute guided dune interpretation walk Friday, July 24 from 9:30-11 a.m.
Attendees will learn how dunes and Lake Michigan were formed, discover the unique shoreline ecosystem and hear fascinating insights into local history. This engaging experience is geared for adults and families, with a suggested minimum age of 7.
The park will also host a volunteer stewardship day Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will help to remove the invasive spotted knapweed plants that threaten high-quality ecosystems in the park. Spotted knapweed removal is an easy project, but a lot of ground will be covered, so come prepared for a hike on uneven terrain and direct sunlight. Participants should dress for outdoor work, with long pants, a long-sleeved shirt and work boots.
The P.J. Hoffmaster State Park will host a similar stewardship day Saturday, July 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will be removing invasive barberry from the entrance area. Invasive barberry has sharp spines, so be sure to dress properly for shrub removal.
