Montague, Whitehall volleyball teams battle against tough competition at Fruitport Invitational

Montague and Whitehall each had tough days against very good area competition Saturday at the Fruitport Invitational. Montague went 0-3-1 on the day and Whitehall dropped all four of its matches.
The Wildcats fell to Fruitport (25-19, 25-15), Oakridge (25-20, 25-20) and, in bracket play, North Muskegon (25-22, 26-24). They also earned a tie against Mona Shores, taking the second game in a 14-25, 25-22 match.
Annelyse Schneider measured up well in a tough tournament, compiling a .333 hitting percentage and 23 kills for the day. She also had five blocks. On defense, Ava Dean had 52 digs and Ellie Smith added 31. Layla Denhof distributed 43 assists.
Whitehall lost a close match to North Muskegon (25-21, 25-21) and fell to Coopersville (25-19, 25-14) and Gull Lake (25-20, 25-13). The Vikings dropped a tough pool play match to Oakridge, 26-24, 15-25, 16-14.
Full statistics from the North Muskegon match were not made available. Aaliyah Jamison led the team's offense in the other three matches with a combined 14 kills and posted impressive hitting percentages of .545 against Gull Lake and .429 against Coopersville. Mayson Milliron posted five aces against Oakridge.
