Reeths-Puffer enjoyed one of its best performances in a long time Tuesday at its home O-K Green Conference jamboree and senior night, finishing second and scoring a 170, just two strokes behind winner Byron Center.
Rockets' coach Matt Pallett said the 170 was the team's best home jamboree score in his five years as R-P coach.
The senior honorees celebrated their last home conference meet in style with great performances. Sophia McCollum earned medalist honors with a 38, including one birdie, scoring the 21st meet win of her career. She did not do worse than a bogey on any hole and scored pars on her final five holes.
Fellow seniors Olivia Ambler and Ella Voorhies each shot a 42, tying for seventh overall. Each player had a birdie in their round, and Voorhies' score was her best jamboree showing of the season.
“I have been blessed to have my three seniors for all of these years," Pallett said. "It was great to see them play well on their last jamboree and senior night. I am proud of the young ladies that they are.”
Abby Davis also posted her lowest jamboree score of the season, a 48, to close out Rocket scoring.
The Rockets' efforts set up a potentially high-stakes conference final, which will take place Friday. R-P has been third much of the season, but by taking second Tuesday, the team opened the door to move up in the standings.
“We put ourselves in position tonight to still finish in the top two in our conference," Pallett said. "With a good showing in the conference finals, we can do just that.”
