The Shelby Marketplace, a new indoor market and community connections venue, will hold its “Grand Opening” Saturday, Sept. 12 in the Shelby Early Childhood Center located at 155 Sixth St., in Shelby. The new venue will be open that day, followed by the first Saturdays of October, November, December, February, March, April and May from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“More than a place to shop, we want the Shelby Marketplace to be a place where the community comes together,” said Jan Sexson, member of the new Shelby Events Committee, the organizers of the event. “The idea is to bring together local vendors, community members and organizations all season long. People will be able to shop from a wide variety of vendor booths and purchase everything from fresh-made food and handcrafted items to unique gifts and supplies. In addition, the marketplace plans to feature two nonprofit organizations every month — a community service organization and an animal rescue organization — and give them the opportunity to hold a fundraiser, share their mission and connect with our community.”
On Sept. 12, the Shelby Middle School cheerleaders will be selling cotton candy and baked goods. Wings and Things Rescue and Rehab Inc. will be selling handmade items, including custom cups, jewelry, key rings and more to support the animals in their care. They are also hoping to find homes for several beautiful parrots, a chinchilla, and a dog!
The grand opening will also feature a chainsaw demonstration by Troy Boroff as well as Puppets of Praise performances at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
On Oct. 3, The Ladder Community Center will be selling a large assortment of handmade items to raise funds they will use to serve families and individuals in Shelby and the surrounding area. Paws with a Cause will be the featured animal nonprofit, and Jodie Gracey of Rocky’s Rocks will provide supplies and instruction for rock painting.
More than 20 vendors are planning to be at the grand opening Saturday, Sept. 12 with a variety of handmade goods for sale. More vendors interested in showcasing their products, nonprofit community organizations and/or animal rescue/rehoming organizations wanting to share their mission with the community and earn money for their organization are needed and welcome.
Vendor booth fees are $15 per month for vendors committed to the entire season or $20 per month for vendors who prefer to participate month to month.
