Hart Cheer cruises to win in home WMC meet, Shelby claims 7th

HART – On their own mat in their home gym, Hart’s varsity competitive cheer team cruised to a lopsided victory over nine opposing schools from the West Michigan Conference (WMC) Wednesday, Jan. 15.

10 teams competed in Hart alongside the Pirates. Fremont, Ludington, Mason County Central (MCC), Montague, North Muskegon, Oakridge, Ravenna, Shelby and Whitehall all made the trip as well.

The Pirates started their night with a mistake-free round one, scoring 228 points – the most of any team in attendance. That momentum sparked them to another lead score of 212.06 in round two, this time losing 10 points on penalties.

With a subtotal of 430.06, Hart had a phenomenal showing in a tightly-contested round three. Lexie Nienhuis and Nora Chickering took care of the stunting duties, helping the Pirates achieve yet another leading score of 290 points.

With a grand total of 720.06 points, Hart ran away with first place. Only MCC (667.62) and Montague (648.92) were close to the Pirates.

Shelby earned a seventh place finish with a final score of 575.46. The Tigers struggled a bit in the first and second rounds, leaving a good deal of points on the table. In the third round, Shelby had their best performance with 227.6 points. The Tigers were relatively clean on the night, with no points deducted on penalties.
