It will be a big day in the Village of Walkerville next Saturday, Aug. 9, when an official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place starting at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer House Museum, kicking off a day full of events for the entire community.
“This year prior to our community picnic on Saturday, Aug. 9, a formal “ribbon cutting” ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer House Museum, where we will celebrate the repainting of the museum and recognize the donors who made the project possible. A brief ceremony will feature speakers from the Oceana Community Foundation, the Great Lakes Energy People Fund, the village and the county board of commissioners. We hope many will be able to come out for the ribbon cutting, then join the community at the village park for a picnic, cornhole tournament and other activities,” said Walkerville Thrives Rebuilding Community Committee member Sharon Hallack.
Walkerville Thrive’s 2nd Annual Midsummer Madness Community Picnic and Cornhole Tournament begins at noon at the Village Park, followed by the cornhole tournament, free children’s activities, a 50/50 drawing and baked goods and produce sale. All proceeds from the event will go to fund future Walkerville Thrives events. Free hot dogs and lemonade will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass, their own table service, seating and any other non-alcoholic beverages they may prefer.
For those interested in participating in the tournament, registration will be $10 per two-person team, all ages, and will take place that day. Cornhole boards will be provided. Other outdoor games will also be available for those not wanting to be a part of the tournament.
This event is being sponsored in part by Arbre Farms, Crosby Farm Market, Ed’s Orchard Market, Hansen Foods and Sanders Meats. For more information, please email walkervillercc@gmail.com
