Monday night marked a special one for Pentwater coach Ashley Lubera. With her Falcons' 82-14 victory over county rival Walkerville, Lubera secured her 200th career victory.
Lubera said her only request of her team beyond winning the game was to ensure every Falcon was able to get in the scorebook, and indeed, all seven Falcons to take the court Monday got on the board for at least four points.
"This was a true team win and a night that reflects what the program stands for," Lubera said. "Your coach is forever proud."
Pentwater took command of the game from the start, shutting out Walkerville 21-0 in the first quarter and leading 49-10 at halftime.
Four Falcons reached double figures, and two - Abram Kieda and Brody Austin - picked up double-doubles. Kieda went for 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Austin had 18 points and 10 boards. Ben Roberson fell just short of achieving one as well, with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Roberson's five three-pointers sparked his effort and, as a sophomore, boosted optimism for the program's long-term future. Kieda and Austin were both impressive, Lubera said.
"Brody Austin delivered a complete effort...controlling the game on both ends of the floor," Lubera said. "Abram
Kieda matched that intensity inside...while setting the tone with his physical presence and effort in the
paint."
Jacobo Martin had 12 points and seven boards to go with six steals, and Kyle Oomen also grabbed seven rebounds.
Lubera said despite being overmatched, Walkerville competed "with heart" and the Falcons respectfully acknowledged the Wildcats' effort. Hugh Tanner led Walkerville with six points and Anthony Shafer added five.
"It was a night that reflected what conference basketball should be about - teamwork and sportsmanship," Lubera said.
