District Health Department #10 celebrates National Public Health Week

District Health Department #10 (DHD#10) is currently observing National Public Health Week (NPHW), which takes place from April 6, 2026 through April 12, 2026. All are invited to join DHD#10 in recognizing how the people and programs of public health have improved the life and health of this area. NPHW is also an opportunity to honor the public health workers who show up every day. Whether it is behind the scenes or out in the community, local public health departments promote and protect the health of area residents where they live, learn, work and play.
Rural communities within DHD#10’s jurisdiction can face unique challenges and public health threats due to limited local resources and the challenges of travel and distance when accessing healthcare services. DHD#10 staff are a part of the communities they serve, meaning they know the types of barriers residents may experience, such as accessing healthy drinking water, preventive care or other essential services, because they experience these themselves. This local knowledge helps staff bridge the gaps in care and support the safety and well-being of residents across the region they serve.
DHD#10 relies on dedicated individuals to prevent disease, promote wellness and protect residents from health risks that often go unseen. While much of this work may go unnoticed until services are needed, NPHW provides an opportunity to recognize and thank public health professionals for their ongoing commitment and impact throughout the year.
