Helen Marie Scripter, 82, of Hart, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026. She was born December 6, 1943, in Muskegon, the daughter of Mitchell and Mamie (Bailey) Battice.
Helen graduated from Michigan School for the Deaf in 1964. She went to work for Stokely's in Hart and then married Manuel Lee Scripter that same year. Helen was a strong woman and raised her six children in Swartz Creek, Michigan.
Helen was a member of the Flint Association of the Deaf, as well as the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.
Helen loved bowling, arts and crafts, jewelry making, baking, going to PowWows, traveling, playing Bingo, and spending time with her family.
Helen is survived by: her children, Majel (Steve) Parker, Harry (Elda) Scripter, Muriel (Theodore) Illes, Marjorie (Cindy) Scripter, and Harlan (Jack) Scripter; grandchildren, Anthony Scripter, Mark Illes, Amanda Parker, Alan Parker, Arnold Scripter, Krisanto (Jennifer) Scripter, and Heather (Duane) Blanchard; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many grand-puppies. She is also survived by: her siblings, Emily Smith, Clarence (Connie) Battice, Ponce Zamborowski, Roma Battice, and Alice Battice; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by: her parents, Mitchell and Mamie Battice; siblings, Mary Meza, Phillip Battice, and Gail Melendrez; son, Herman Scripter; and grandson, Mitchell Scripter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 N. 72nd Ave., Hart, MI 49420, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow services at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Indian Cemetery, Elbridge Township, at a later date.
