James Neil Woodbury, 46, of Branch, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 28, 1979, in Shelby, the son of David and Kaye (Fessenden) Woodbury.
After graduation James attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy, receiving his Merchant Mariner Credential. James worked a number of jobs, but loved working the freighters on the Great Lakes the most. James loved to hunt and fish, anything outdoors, or spending time with his family and close friends.
James is survived by: his partner and best friend, Julie Neiboer; son, Wesley Woodbury; daughter, Terri Woodbury; brother, Danial Woodbury; sister-in-law, Martha (Sis); parents, David and Kaye Woodbury.
James was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Neil and Joyce Woodbury, and Ivan and Betty Fessenden.
A memorial service was conducted at noon. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Newman Christian Community Church, 4075 S. 132nd Ave., Hesperia, Michigan 49421, with Pastor Mike Termer officiating. The family received friends from 11 a.m. until the start of services at the church. A luncheon was provided.
