Pamela Jo Beal, age 87, of Ludington, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Corewell Health Hospital in Ludington, following a brave and stoic struggle.
Pamela was born on December 13, 1938, in Muskegon, Michigan, to John S. and Viola G. (Nelson) Oldt, both of whom grew up in Riverton Township. She spent many cherished summers of her youth in Riverton with her grandparents and extended family, working on family farms and enjoying time at the Oldt property on North Oxbow Lake.
Pamela attended Muskegon Heights elementary schools and graduated from Whitehall High School in 1957. She went on to attend Central Michigan University, where she met her husband, James A. Beal. After James transferred to Michigan State University, Pamela devoted herself to raising their family as a stay-at-home mother. The family later relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where Pamela returned to college and, after raising her two children, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Missouri–St. Louis in 1979.
Pamela dedicated her professional life to education, working as a primary school teacher in St. Louis, Missouri, and Wilmington, Delaware. A gifted educator, she had a special love for teaching young children and was deeply committed to preparing them for their futures. Pamela enriched her classrooms with creative activities, bringing learning to life in ways few educators could master.
In retirement, Pamela was actively involved in her community, serving on the Pere Marquette Township Board of Trustees, the Planning Commission and numerous subcommittees.
Pamela possessed wide-ranging interests and talents. She loved music, enthusiastically singing along to Broadway musicals, playing the flute, and excelling as an accomplished pianist. An avid reader, she was known to read everything written by authors she admired. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, crafting, antiquing, and traveling throughout the United States. While living in St. Louis, Pamela operated a small crafting business that delighted friends and neighbors with her unique creations. She was also an enthusiastic collector of antique dolls, vintage toys, baskets, crockery, and teddy bears, and she took great joy in decorating her home with these collections for holidays and all seasons.
Pamela loved animals throughout her life, cherishing her many cats and dogs and generously supporting animal rescue organizations.
A devoted sports fan, Pamela followed nearly every competition imaginable. She was an avid supporter of Michigan State hockey, the St. Louis Blues hockey — holding season tickets for many years — MLB Baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals, Detroit Tigers; NFL Football - Detroit Lions; enjoyed watching soccer, especially the World Cup; all college basketball, college football and the Olympic Games. If a sporting event was on, Pamela was watching and cheering.
Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, John S. and Viola G. Oldt. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, James Arthur Beal; her son, Scott M. Beal (Wendy A.); her daughter, Wendy J. Beal (Col. USAF, Retired); her brother, Michael N. Oldt (Barbara); her sisters-in-law, Beverly McLaughlin and JoAnn (John) Pope; her cousins, Flora Parker, Carole (Melvin) Christofferson, Judy Stouder, K. Carla (James) Bowman, MeriLou (George) Keelan and Charles Oldt Jr. (Laura), as well as many more cousins, friends, and colleagues who will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, with services to follow at Riverton Township Cemetery.
