Reeths-Puffer softball splits with Byron Center to stay alive in conference title race

Reeths-Puffer stayed in the hunt for an O-K Green Conference title Tuesday by splitting a doubleheader against Division 1 honorable mention Byron Center. The Rockets won an exciting game one, 4-2, before taking a 17-7 defeat in game two.
The Rockets (19-5, 6-2 O-K Green) trailed 2-1 after five innings before rallying, scoring once in the sixth inning and twice in the seventh. Carlie Guikema's home run tied it up in the sixth, and in the seventh, Madi Reichert cashed in a leadoff double by Lainey McDaniel to bring in the go-ahead run, and Kenzie Jacobs scored Reichert with a double.
McDaniel got the win, allowing one earned run on six hits and striking out nine. Reichert got three hits and McDaniel got two.
R-P led 5-3 after two innings in the nightcap, but Byron Center quickly took over the game after that and piled up six runs in the seventh inning to pull away.
Reichert hit her second home run of the season during the game, one of two hits for her. McDaniel also had two hits, as did Jacobs.
