Whitehall baseball drops doubleheader to Sparta

Whitehall lost a doubleheader to Sparta Friday, 4-1 and 9-6, as the Vikings continued to tune up for the postseason.
The first game went to extra innings with the score tied at 1. Each team's only run in regulation came in the third inning; Justin Jensen tied it up with a RBI double to score Cody Manzo after he singled.
In the eighth, Sparta took advantage of an error and scored the go-ahead run, then added two more after the Vikings walked a batter and hit another.
Emmett Hecht got two hits for Whitehall in the opener, and Noah Peterson pitched six innings of no-hit baseball, striking out five and walking five.
Whitehall was in position to win the nightcap before Sparta scored five times in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Five Vikings got a hit each in game two; Noah Peterson and Manzo each drew a walk in addition to their one hit, and James Brooks walked twice. Hecht pitched a scoreless inning of relief, striking out one.
