It was another record-breaking day for Whitehall senior Bobby Jazwinski Saturday at the Benzie Central Pete Moss Invitational.
Jazwinski
broke his own Whitehall school 5K record in the race, dominating the
field with a time of 14:23.9 - 37 seconds ahead of his nearest
competitor. His time was a whopping 33 seconds better than his previous
best, also set at Benzie in last year's regional meet.
The
Viking boys took fifth out of 13 scoring schools in the large-school
division. Montague competed in the small-school division, earning
seventh place out of 19 scoring schools in the boys' race. Neither local
team scored as a team in the girls' race.
Following
Jazwinski, Rex Pumford placed 24th in a time of 16:57.9, and Ian Dennis
was 39th in a personal best time of 17:32.1. Scout Freiheit finished
50th (17:57.3) and Alex Winczewski, running in his first varsity race,
posted a time of 18:32.1 to take 60th.
Two top-10 finishers
led the Wildcat boys Saturday. Wesley Mair finished seventh (16:31.6)
and Nolan Kessler was eighth (16:34.2). Both times were personal bests,
and Mair eclipsed his previous top time, set at last year's regional
meet in Allendale, by over a minute.
Also for Montague,
freshman Xavier Near finished 73rd in his first race (19:11.5), Jonathan
Mueller was 86th (19:31.4) and Brock Hunter was 88th (19:35.6).
For
the Viking girls, Gabrielle Chevez placed 39th (21:11.2), Vivian Hesse
was 92nd (26:03.9) and Carys Hall placed 97th (30:14.4). Montague girls
finishers were Amelia Liskey in 126th (27:04.5), Brightyn Minchak in
132nd (27:24.9), Gemma Lorson in 134th (27:31.6) and Peyton Sweet in
138th (28:06.8). Minchak and Lorson, both freshmen, made their varsity
debuts.
