Jay D. McGhan, 79, of Hart, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, with his loving family at his side. He was born October 15, 1946, at County Farm in Hart, the son of Ray and Evelyn (Page) McGhan.
Jay was an avid reader, music enthusiast, and lover of the outdoors. His favorite pastimes included hunting deer, trout fishing, morel mushroom hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren. Jay was a man of many talents: spending his years as a dedicated farmer, house mover, auctioneer, brick mason, logger, truck driver, and timber buyer/ forestry manager. In addition, Jay was passionate about serving his community as the Hart Township zoning administrator for 34 years and Hart Township supervisor for 22 years as well as serving on various other committees.
Jay is survived by: his wife of 60 years, Sharon (Flory); sons, David (Tracy) McGhan, Donald (Cora) McGhan, and Daniel (Sara) McGhan; grandchildren, Kayla Kasza, Isaac McGhan, Krista Moul, Jesse McGhan, Sylvia Harris, Aaron McGhan, Brent McGhan, Deanna McGhan, Joshua McGhan, Samantha McGhan, Caleb McGhan, Grace McGhan, Levi McGhan, Kinsley McGhan, Lana McGhan, and Andrew McGhan; great-grandchildren, Melody, Landon, Micah, Zane, Maisey, Brenna, Elsie, Elliot, Felicie, Killian, Isla, Anastasia, Nakota, Flynnigan, Oliver, Theodore, Hunter, Weston, and Emily; brother, John McGhan; and close friends Tim Tariske, Terry Mead, and Al Peeraer.
Jay was preceded in death by: his parents, Ray and Evelyn; and brothers, Wayne, Robert, Richard and Joseph.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am, Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Hart Wesleyan Church, 3757 W. Polk Rd., Hart, Michigan 49455, with Pastor Kelvin Page officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Harris Funeral Home, 267 N. Michigan Ave., Shelby, Michigan 49455 and from 10 a.m. until the start of services at the church.
