Pentwater senior Bailey Case celebrated her final regular season meet Tuesday by going out on top, taking first place at the Mason County Eastern Cardinal Classic, whose girls varsity race consisted solely of MCE and the Falcons.
Case posted a time of 22:02.3, topping a field of 10 runners by over a minute and a half.
Fellow seniors Lily Smith and Maggie Jorissen finished in fourth and sixth place respectively, with times of 24:41.0 and 28:39.8. Smith's time was a season best.
In the boys' race, Walkerville's Ethan Schamber led county runners with a sixth-place finish and a time of 19:39.6. Tyler Zimmer led the Falcons with a ninth-place finish and time of 20:30.0.
Reid Riggs ran a time of 22:11.2 to finish 14th for Walkerville, followed by Ben Roberson of Pentwater in 17th place (23:13.9) and the Wildcats' Easton Flanery in 18th (23:14.6). Easton Wolgamott placed 23rd for Walkervile (29:11.1).
Pentwater coach Erika Fatura praised her four seniors, which also included Michael Smith, who did not compete Tuesday.
"It is difficult to put into words just how much these four have meant to our cross country program," Fatura said. "They have been leaders, mentors, positive role models, and an important part of what makes this team so special."
