Pentwater defeated Walkerville in a hard-fought West Michigan D League county battle Tuesday night, 42-32, with three Falcons providing the bulk of the scoring.
Aubrie Adams led the way for Pentwater, stuffing the stat sheet with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Adams scored six of the Falcons’ first 10 points, said coach Brandon Knoll, getting the team’s offense going early.
“Walkerville played very physically against us and made us work for every basket,” Knoll said. “In the third quarter, we battled some foul trouble that continued to keep us out of our offensive rhythm.”
The Wildcats hung tough with Pentwater for the first three quarters using their tough defense, but ultimately the Falcons pulled away for the double-digit win, with two three-pointers from Emma Werkema-Grondsma proving pivotal for the team.
Adding to Adams’ scoring effort, Lauren Davis posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, adding five steals. Werkema-Grondsma had 11 points and six boards.
Walkerville coach Mandy Achterhof said the Wildcats struggled shooting, keeping them from taking advantage of solid defensive play.
Marrison Simpson led Walkerville with 10 points and six rebounds, and Grace Riggs added nine points and seven boards. Jamari Carter was a force on defense with four steals.
