A late comeback by Morley-Stanwood cost Hart what would have been a
2-0 day Saturday at the Morley-Stanwood Classic, as the Pirates dropped
their first game of the day 6-5 to the Mohawks.
Hart grabbed
an early 5-0 lead in the game, but Morley-Stanwood stormed back to score
twice in the fourth inning and four times in the fifth and final inning
to steal the win. A wild pitch brought home three runs for the Mohawks
in the fifth, including the winning run.
Morley-Stanwood drew four walks in the pivotal fifth inning and got a big hit from Brayden Metzger to score a run as well.
The
Pirates did not get a hit in the game but took advantage of 10 walks
and three Mohawk errors to grab their 5-0 lead. Halen Boos scored two
runs and Hollis Rockwell drew two walks. Aiden Cull struck out nine and
allowed three earned runs in four innings pitched.
Hart beat Brethren in its second game of the tournament, 15-0, behind an outstanding effort on the mound and at the plate.
The
Pirate bats were impressive, working 11 walks at the plate and
collecting eight hits. Boos and Caden VanGelderen had big games at the
top of the lineup, each getting two hits and two RBI and combining for
five runs scored. Joseph Osorio, Rockwell and Logan Jorissen each scored
twice. Jorissen got a hit and drew two walks, and Aiden Cull had three
walks.
Jordan Thies pitched a shortened one-hit shutout, striking out four and walking four.
