Hart baseball uses big innings to sweep Morley-Stanwood

Hart swept a doubleheader against Morley-Stanwood Wednesday, defeating the Mohawks 10-7 in game one and taking a 6-3 win in game two to pick up its first two wins of the season.
The second game was called for darkness after three innings, but since the games were agreed to be six innings and three marked the halfway point, the contest counted as an official game.
In game one, Hart (2-2) came up big with three runs in the fifth inning. After two walks and a single, Pascal Miller got a bunt single to drive in the go-ahead run. Aiden Cull drew a walk to bring in another run, and Caden VanGelderen brought in the third run of the inning. Mason Guikema then threw a scoreless sixth inning to finish the game.
Joseph Osorio got two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. VanGelderen and Halen Boos each scored three times; they got a hit apiece and combined to draw five of Hart's nine walks. Guikema got the win on the mound.
In game two, the Pirates scored four times in the second inning to make the difference in the game. VanGelderen laced an RBI triple and Hollis Rockwell drove him in with a single for the big two hits of the inning.
Rockwell had two hits in the game, and Guikema again picked up the win, striking out 10 in three innings; he recorded nine outs by strikeout and had another strikeout on which the batter reached first base on a dropped third strike. He surrendered one earned run on four hits.
"We played our game of baseball," Hart coach Kyle Weiler said. "We manufactured runs with the small ball game and came up with clutch hits when needed. Everyone produced in their own way. These guys proved they can play the game of baseball. We still have a bunch of work to do, but today laid a great foundation."
